Every year, incarcerated volunteers in Ohio help rehabilitate and release nearly 2,000 wild animals, proving that care creates care. Inspired by this model, the San Diego Zoo’s Hands That Heal campaign highlights how choice, enrichment, and dignity lead to healthier animals and more meaningful human connections.
Hands That Heal
Let supporters sponsor 24 hours of animal rehabilitation, covering essentials like formula, medicine, and enrichment. Each donor receives a personalized Care Report that highlights the animal’s progress and the trainee who helped deliver the care, transforming simple donations into a shared story of dignity, purpose, and thriving futures.
A Pop-Up interactive installation that invites visitors to assemble real wildlife care kits—nest boxes, feeders, and enrichment tools—that directly support animal wellbeing. As participants complete their kits, surrounding screens display the immediate impact, from the animals benefitting to the conservation programs supported.
